A dye-based inkset has a larger color gamut, most of the time, than a pigment-based inkset. Your needs, of course, are likely to be different from mines.

In my testing, printing images with lots of greens and blues on the R, I have not noticed a huge loss, and often no loss at all, of colors in greens and blues.
This claim is for framed photographs under glass. Most of us, myself included, started with a desktop-size printer as our first printer.
